Diversity in our Dining Spaces
In 1994, Ed Bennett toured buildings up and down the PNW coastline looking for the ideal location for his new brewery. Upon finding 1107 Railroad Ave in Downtown Bellingham, Ed discovered the new home for Boundary Brewery & Bistro.
Indoor Dining
The historic building that now houses our daily operations was previously used by Steve’s Body Building Gym, and you can still see remnants of their equipment up in our attic today. The original wood flooring that once housed a fitness gym is now holding up our rustic and bustling Taproom and Bistro. Furnished with reclaimed antiques and stylized with local artisan crafts and paintings, these two indoor dining areas make everyone feel at home.
Taproom

Our 21+ Taproom features brews from our tap list of over 20 craft beers, in addition to our local wine and cider selection. Decorated with antique canoes, medals for both Boundary Bay Beers and relay teams and local artist Lorna Libert’s giant nautical themed paintings, the Taproom combines historic charm and a spacious yet cozy experience for guests. On those rainy PNW days, some say it feels just like visiting a traditional Irish Pub! Other features include giant windows that look into our microbrewery, a view of the famous Downtown Herald Building & Farmers Market Depot, and a large, breezy garage door we like to keep open on those gorgeous summer days. Sorry, no doggos in the Taproom!
Bistro
A group chatting away as they wait for their lunch in the Bistro. Complete with a ceiling mural and local artwork for sale decorating the walls, the Bistro at Boundary Bay is the perfect place to enjoy lunch on a sunny afternoon with your pals.
In our family friendly Bistro, bring the kiddos and enjoy our comforting, hand crafted and locally sourced pub fare that has been perfected for over 25 years. The Greater Bellingham area ceiling mural and pieces from local artists along the walls are complemented by the Bistro’s long, open layout and natural light that floods in from the back windows. Sorry, no doggos in the Bistro!
Outdoor Dining
As of 10/13/2023 our Outdoor Dining Spaces (deck, sidewalk seating & beer garden) are closed, with the exception of brewery events. Outdoor spaces will reopen in Spring 2024.
Looking for a spot to enjoy the sunshine on a nice summer day or with your well behaved puppy in tow? Level up your experience and join us out on the Deck, Sidewalk Seating (Patio) or Lower Garden area while you share a beer and meal with your closest friends! Since 2002, these outdoor dining areas have been evolving into their own unique space, each with specific features that truly make them a one-of-a-kind experience. From dining in our well-known, often music-filled Beer Garden (which was once a parking lot!) to enjoying our newest addition of Sidewalk Seating that overlooks the Saturday Farmers Market, there’s a space for every sort of occasion you’re choosing to spend here at Boundary Bay.
Deck
A snapshot of the Deck on a sunny morning before the first reservation for the day arrives. The Deck offers coverage from both the rain on colder days and the sunshine on warmer ones.
In the summer, the Deck is the perfect spot to enjoy a shaded lunch while relishing in the sounds of local musical acts playing on the Beer Garden stage below. Seating includes tables that seat up to 4 people comfortably (and there’s almost always room for another chair on the end.) Access to the Front Lobby, Bistro and Beer Garden are all available from the Deck. Doggos welcome! *The Deck is closed to dining for the season and will reopen in Spring 2024.
Sidewalk Seating
Our sidewalk seating is weather dependent - as it doesn’t offer a covered area. It’s best to enjoy in the Spring and Summer months.
This area is lined by a fence made from recycled kegs and flower pots and was set up with both heaters and a new sound system in early fall of 2020 to keep it serviceable during the winter months. Direct views of the Herald Building and Market Depot for Saturday Farmers Markets are also available from this dining option. Doggos welcome! *Sidewalk Seating is closed to dining for the season, and will reopen in Spring 2024.
The Beer Garden
We don’t serve our restaurant food down in our beer garden, however Adirondack chairs are readily available for those looking to enjoy a fresh pint and good book in the Beer Garden sun. Also in the months of sunnier weather, we often have a fish fry or barbeque menu available to order from. Accessible from the main restaurant entrance at 1107 Railroad Ave. Doggos welcome! *The Beer Garden is closed for the season and will reopen in Spring 2024.
